One Good
Friday a street vendor was selling crosses in front of a large cathedral.
“Cheap crosses for sale!” cried the fellow as he endeavored to attract
new customers.
The vendor’s
statement held more meaning than he intended. Many people are looking for
an easy religion that doesn’t require them to give up their worldly pleasures.
They are seeking for a cheap cross.
The cross
of Calvary was not cheap. Jesus gave up the pleasures of Heaven that He
might come to earth and shed His blood for the sins of mankind. He commands
us to daily take up a cross of self-denial that we might put Him first,
others second, and ourselves last.
If we
are willing to bear a cross today, some tomorrow we will wear a crown.
