A handyman was joyfully making some repairs to a roof when someone shouted up at him, "You might be feeling happy today, but I would think thoughts of the future would quench your joy. Suppose you were to have an accident on the job or get sick and wouldn't be able to work and earn a living."
"I don't suppose." replied the handyman. "The Lord is my Shepherd, and I know I shall not want."
Too much supposing makes a person miserable. It causes us to doubt God's ability to meet our needs. We have nothing to fear when we make Jesus our Lord and Shepherd for, “God...always causeth us to triumph in Christ” (2 Cor. 2:14). None of them that trust in Him shall be desolate” (Psalms 34:22). Therefore, “commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in Him; and He shall bring it to pass” (Psalms 37:5).
