The Cost Of Following Jesus

 They took Jesus... bearing
His cross and crucified Him...

(John 19:16,17,18)

Church     In an attempt to impress his colleague, a big city clergyman conducted him on a tour of the majestic cathedral in which he ministered. Pointing to the steeple, he proudly exclaimed, "That cross up there cost us $10,000.” "You got it very cheap," replied his associate. "Jesus' cross cost Him his life."
Jesus said "If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me"
(Matt. 16:24). Although salvation is a free gift, “for by grace are ye saved through faith...it is the gift of God” (Eph. 2:8) it will cost us something to follow Jesus. We must crucify our will and put Jesus first in everything. Doing so may cost us reproach and hardship, but Jesus never promised us an easy way in life. Quite the contrary. He said, "In the world ye shall have tribulation" (John 16:33). Nevertheless, He said, "I will not leave you comfortless," (John 14:18). For "the God of all comfort... comforteth us in all our tribulation" (2 Cor. 1:3,4).
Though the cost be great, fear not to take up your cross and follow Jesus. "Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning"
(Psalms 30:5).
