Engineers determine the strength of a material by applying a weight to it which is called the "load". The force upon the material is called the "stress" and the amount of deformation to the material placed under "stress" is called "strain". Different materials exert different amounts of resistance to the load placed upon them depending upon their mechanical properties.
Likewise, the strength of a person's faith in Christ is determined when they are placed under stress. The greater the load, the greater the stress and strain upon them. It is satan's desire to overload God's children with heavy burdens and "wear out the saints" (Dan. 7:25) so as to deform their faith. But praise God, we have power to resist him through our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Because “greater is He (Jesus) that is in you than he (satan) that is in the world” (1 John 4:4). For “whosoever is born of God overcometh the world” (1 John 5:4). Therefore we can say, “thanks be to God which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Cor. 15:57). “In all...things we are more than conquers through Him...” (Rom. 8:37).
