 Frogs are small animals with long sticky tongues which they use to catch their prey. Their tongue operates so fast that it can hardly be seen. In one quick rolling motion, they extend their tongue, grab their unsuspecting victim and draw them in for consumption.
Just as the tongue is a frog's best weapon in taking prey, mankind has also discovered its usefulness in taking prey. For "the tongue...is...full of deadly poison" (James 3:8) which can quickly devour its victim with only a few unkind words.
Jesus said, "out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh" (Matt. 12:34). The poisonous sting of the tongue is the result of unkind thoughts abiding in one's heart. Therefore, if we want to tame our tongue, we must first "purify our heart" (James 4:8) by "bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ" (2 Cor. 10;5). Be "longsuffering, forbearing... and forgiving one another... and above all... put on charity" (Col. 3:12,13,14).
