In order for wheat to be useful to man as food it must be converted into flour and go through a milling process which separates the useful portion from the chaff. This is accomplished by first cleaning the wheat, after which it is repeatedly ground and sifted.
In like manner, the Lord prepares His servants for usefulness. After cleansing us with His redeeming blood, He endeavors to remove the chaff from our life. Just as the wheat is broken by repeated grinding, the Lord allows us to be buffeted by trials so as to break away the chaff from our life; thus enabling us to "go on unto perfection" (Heb. 6:1).
Therefore, when trials come your way "be... of good courage (and) dread not" (1 Chron. 22:13). "Endure afflictions" (2 Tim. 4:5). "Knowing... that the trying of your faith worketh...that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing" (James 1:3,4).
