 When Joseph Bernardin (1928-1996) was a young boy, his mother frequently took out the family photo album and told him stories about her family and homeland which she left behind, when she immigrated from Italy to America. After years of studying the photo album, Joseph got to know about Italy and his family there quite well. When he and his mother later traveled there he felt as though he had been to Italy before and exclaimed, "I know this place. I am home!" Years later, as he lay dying of cancer he commented, "Somehow I think crossing from this life into life eternal will be similar (to that experience). I will be home."
And so it shall be when we spend time studying God's picture album, the Bible. It is there that we can get to know Him and obtain a picture of our heavenly homeland. Death for the child of God is nothing to be feared. For it shall be a glorious homecoming and family reunion with our Father in Heaven.
