The Wages Of Sin

The soul that sinneth, it shall die.

(Ezekiel 18:4)

Eel     An eel is a long thin fish that looks much like a snake. Each year, eels from Europe and North America swim from their freshwater habitations out into the Atlantic Ocean and breed near the Bermuda Islands. As the eels migrate downstream, they are caught by fisherman. One method of catching eels is to tie worms onto a line and cast it into the water. No hooks of any kind are used. The eels eagerly grab the bait and cling to it with their sharp teeth--refusing to let go. Thus, they are easily pulled from the water and pay with their lives.
When we cling to sin, our fate will be similar to the eel's. "For the wages of sin is death" (Rm. 6:23). But the Lord has said, "I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked: but that the wicked turn from his (wicked) way and live..." (Ezek. 33:11). Therefore, "repent and turn yourselves from all your transgressions" (Ezek. 18:30). "Seek the Lord...and live" (Amos 5:6).
