The term "rainshadow" is used to describe the lack of rain on one side of a mountain while the other side receives rain in abundance. As air rises up over a mountain it cools causing its moisture content to condense and fall to the ground as rain or snow. Once the air reaches the top of a mountain it descends down the other side and warms up. Since warm air is able to hold more moisture than cool air, no condensation takes place and it does not rain on that side of the mountain. Thus the dry side of the mountain is said to be in the "shadow" of the rainy side.
Perhaps you feel as though you've been living on the dry side of the mountain of life. "Fear not, neither be discouraged" (Deut. 1:21); for "the Lord...will satisfy thy soul in drought..." (Is. 58:11a). "He shall come down like rain upon the mown grass..." (Ps. 72:6), "and thou shalt be like a watered garden..." (Is. 58:11b).
Therefore, "Be of good cheer..." (Matt. 14:27) and "commit thy way unto the Lord..." (Ps. 37:5). For, "none of them that trust in Him shall be desolate" (Ps. 34:22).
