Which came first, the chicken or the egg? is an age-old question whose answer can only be found in the Bible. Genesis 1:21 tells us "God created... every winged fowl..." Since all fowl was created, the first chicken could not have hatched from an egg. Therefore, the chicken came first. Nevertheless, their eggs are one of God's most perfect foods for man. They contain all the vitamins we need except for Vitamin C. But, no matter how good eggs are for food, they can never be used until they are broken.
Likewise we, like an egg, can never be used of God until we are broken. For, “God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble” (James 4:6). Our prideful self-will must be broken and humbled in His sight. We must will what God wills -- praying as Jesus did, "Father... not my will, but thine be done" (Luke 22:42).
