The tempering of glass is a process in which a glass object is reheated with fire and suddenly cooled. Fully tempered glass can withstand forces up to 15,000 PSI, whereas non-tempered glass can only withstand forces up to 400 PSI. Thus, the more the glass goes through the fire, the greater its strength.
We, like glass, also increase in strength the more we go through the fire. Thus God tempers us with "fiery trials" (1 Peter 4:12) that we may "be strengthened...by His Spirit in the inner man" (Ephesians 3:16).
Therefore, "think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is (come) to...you as though some strange thing happened unto you" (1 Peter 4:12). For although "many are the afflictions of the righteous... the Lord delivereth... out of them all" (Psalm 34:19) and "giveth strength and power unto His people" (Psalm 68:35).
