 Wind is air moving across the earth's surface resulting from the uneven heating of the earth's atmosphere by the sun. When air near the earth's surface is heated by the sun it expands and rises. As the warm air rises, cooler air from above descends. This circulation of air is the origin of the earth's winds.
There are two basic types of wind -- strong and gentle. Gentle winds have many useful purposes, such as powering windmills and sailboats. Strong winds, on the other hand, can be very destructive when they erode the soil and smash buildings.
Like the wind, we also can be gentle or destructive. If our lives are to be useful to God we, like a balmy breeze, must be gentle. For "the fruit of the Spirit is... gentleness..." (Gal. 5:22).
