A caterpillar, struggling to make his way through some tall grass, lost his footing and flipped over onto his back. Lying there, he looked up and saw a bird flying overhead. "Oh, how nice it would be," he thought to himself, "If only I could fly. Then, I would not have to struggle so to get about in this tangled maze here below."
Like the caterpillar, our struggles may cause us to feel like saying, “Oh that I had wings...for then would I fly away, and be at rest" (Ps. 55:6). Just as caterpillars must wait upon their Creator to receive their wings, we also must wait upon the Lord to receive ours. For “they that wait upon the Lord...shall mount up with wings...” (Is. 40:31). Therefore, “rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him” (Ps. 37:7). For “the LORD is good unto them that wait for him...” (Lam. 3:25).
