Special Cement

 Be not moved away from
the hope of the gospel...

(Colossians 1:23)

Barnacle     The acorn barnacle is a small shrimp-like animal which lives on its back, in a limestone house, with its feet sticking out so it can kick food into its mouth. Barnacles have a special cement they use to glue themselves to rocks and other surfaces. Once attached to a suitable spot, they hold fast to it for the remainder of their lives. They never stray away. Barnacle cement is so strong that it can support a weight of 7,000 pounds and withstand temperatures of 6,000 degrees Fahrenheit.
Like barnacles holding fast and refusing to be tossed and carried about by every wave of the sea, we are admonished to "be no more... tossed to and fro, and carried about with every... doctrine... of men..." (Eph 4:14); but rather to "hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering" (Heb 10:23). "For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast unto the end" (Heb 3:14).
Therefore, like a barnacle, "hold fast..." (2 Tim 1:13).
