Tapeworms are parasites that can grow up to 30 feet long in animals and humans. By attaching themselves with small hooks or suckers within the intestinal wall, these bandits absorb digested food; thus robbing their host of strength-giving nourishment. The results are abdominal discomfort and physical weakness.
Like a parasite attached to one's innards robbing them of their strength, bitterness will rob us of our joy. Bitterness within our heart will eat away at us causing much discomfort and weakness of body and soul.
Therefore, "let all bitterness... be put away from you..." (Eph 4:31). Focus your thoughts on the goodness of the Lord and not the badness of people. For "God worketh all things out for good to them that love Him" (Rm 8:28 paraphrased).
