A blood transfusion is the transferring of blood from one person's body into another person's body. Blood transfusions were first used in the 1600's, but often with fatal results. It was not until 1900 when Karl Landsteiner (1868-1943) discovered that people have different blood types. If a transfusion is to be successful, a person must be given the proper type of blood.
Up until the time of Jesus Christ, the people of God used the blood of animals to atone for their sins, but it was not the right blood type, because "it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins" (Heb 10:4). Only Jesus has the right blood type, for "we have redemption through His blood" (Eph 1:7). He gave the world a spiritual blood transfusion on the cross, when He shed His blood for the remission of our sins.
Therefore, be "washed... in His... blood" (Rev 1:5). For "the blood of Jesus Christ... cleanseth us from all sin" (1 Jn 1:7).
