 One definition of the word dumb is "stupid". Someone or something said to be stupid is considered to be unintelligent or boring. This is the general use of the word "dumb" in today's society. But, there is another definition of the word dumb. To be dumb also means to be silent.
The psalmist David wrote, "I was dumb with silence... I opened not my mouth" (Ps 39:2,9). Sometimes it is best to be dumb with silence and not say anything, for "he that refraineth his lips is wise" (Pr 10:19).
Being dumb with silence can keep us from being dumb with stupidity. Therefore, being dumb may not so dumb after all.
