Our sense of taste contributes largely to our enjoyment of life. Taste buds on our tongue allow us to enjoy the saltiness of a potato chip and the sweetness of an apple. The average person has about 10,000 taste buds. Each taste bud has very sensitive microscopic hairs called microvilli (mye-kro-vih-lye) that send messages to the brain about how something tastes. In an effort to provide us with foods that taste good, the food industry conducts research using taste tests to determine the public's reaction to the flavor of their foods.
Like the food industry inviting us to taste their food products and give them a try, David invites us to give the Lord a try when he said "taste and see that the Lord is good" (Psalm 34:8a). We will never know how good something tastes until we try it for ourselves, and we will never know the goodness of the Lord Jesus Christ until we give Him a try. Therefore try God. For "the Lord is good to all" (Ps 145:9). "Blessed is the man that trusteth in Him" (Ps 34:8b).
