 On January 26, 2014 the overcrowded tourist ferry boat MV Aqua Marine capsized and sank in India's Andaman Sea, off the coast of Viper Island. Of the 25 life jackets on board, many passengers did not bother to put them on. As a result, 21 people tragically lost their lives.
Just as a life jacket cannot save one's life unless they put it on, Jesus cannot save us from the "wages of sin (which) is death" (Rm 6:23) except we put Him on. It is not enough to just believe in God. "The devils also believe" (Jam 2:19) and yet they do not possess God's gift of salvation. We "all have sinned" (Rm 3:23) and need to be reborn "out of darkness into His marvelous light" (1Pe 2:9). Let us therefore "turn from our iniquities" (Dan 9:13) and "put... on... Christ" (Rm 13:14). "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and... cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1Jn 1:9).
