Mistletoe is a small plant whose existence is dependent upon its ability to abide upon the branches of larger trees that act as its host. By attaching itself to a tree with a root-like structure called a haustorium, it is able to absorb life-supporting nutrients. As a result of this beneficial relationship with its host, mistletoe is able to thrive and stay evergreen year round -- bearing a fruitful crop of berries used by various birds for food.
Likewise, when we attach ourselves to Jesus Christ and abide in Him, He also will provide us with much needed life support that will enable us to thrive. For "blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord... (his) leaf shall be green... neither shall (he) cease from yielding fruit" (Jer 17:7,8). He "shall still bring forth fruit in old age" (Ps 92:14).
