 As a result of Britain's involvement in the Crimean War (1853-1856), many British soldiers were wounded and forced to endure dreadful conditions in army hospitals. Learning of the soldier's plight, British war correspondent, William Howard Russell (1820-1907), wrote a newspaper article with the following appeal: "Are there no devoted women among us able and willing to go forth to minister to the sick and suffering soldiers...?" Florence Nightingale (1820-1910) was one of those who answered the call. As a result of her labor, there was a drastic drop in the death rate among the wounded soldiers.
As Russell's call for laborers went forth on behalf of the British Empire, Jehovah God is also calling for laborers to serve in His kingdom. For "the harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few" (Mt 9:37). Therefore, "Go ye... and preach the gospel to every creature" (Mk 16:15). As a result, you can help reduce the spiritual death rate among those around you.
