     Ben Hogan (1912-1997) was an American golfer whose career spanned from 1930 to 1971. Due to his father's untimely death, when he was nine years old, Ben took a job as a caddy at a local country club to help his mother with expenses. It was then that he saw golf as a way to escape his poverty. At age19, Ben became a professional golfer. His first ten years on the golf circuit were very difficult. In 1948 he finally made it to the top and began winning big money when he was suddenly struck down by tragedy. While driving home from a golf tournament in February 1949, he was hit head on by a Greyhound bus which fractured his pelvis, collar bone, and left ankle. His doctors said he might not ever walk again. But Ben refused to accept defeat and stay down. After 59 days in the hospital, he gradually learned to walk again and went on to become an even greater golfer than he was before.
     Life may get you down at times, but like Ben Hogan you don't have to stay down. For God causes us to "rise up with wings as eagles" (Isa 40:31) and maketh our feet "like hinds' feet... to walk upon high... places" (Hab 3:19).
