Ken Griffey Jr. (B: 1969) grew up in the 1970's watching his father, Ken Griffey Sr. (B: 1950) play baseball for the Cincinnati Reds. His dream was to grow up and be like his father, a professional ball player. In 1989 his dream came true when he made it to the Major League playing for the Seattle Mariners. A year later, in 1990, his father also signed on with the Mariners. Together the two Kens became the first father-son duo to play on the same team at the same time. In 2000 Griffey Jr. was traded to the Cincinnati Reds where like-father-like-son he wore No. 30, the same number his father had worn years earlier.
Just as Ken Jr. wanted to be like his earthly father, we should desire to be like our Heavenly Father. For "as many as received Him" (Jn 1:12a) and are "led by the Spirit of God" (Rm 8:14) "to them gave He power to become the sons of God" (Jn 1:12b) and "be like Him" (1Jn 3:2b), that we "might receive⦠an inheritance" (Heb 9:15) "eternal in the heavens" (2Cor 5:1) "that fadeth not away" (1Pe 1:4).
