Scottish physician, James Simpson (1811-1870) pioneered the use of anesthesia as a means of alleviating pain associated with surgery. The word anesthesia is a combination of two Greek words, "an" meaning "without" and "aisthesis" meaning "sensation." In 1853, England's Queen Victoria popularized its use by being a recipient of anesthesia during the birth of her sixth child, Prince Leopold.
Just as Doctor Simpson removed the pain from his patients, caused by surgery, there is coming a day when Doctor Jesus "shall wipe away all tears from our eyes and there shall be no more... pain" (Rev 21:4). Concerning that day, "eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither has it entered into the heart of man, the wonderful things which God hath prepared for them that love Him" (1Co 2:9). Therefore "rejoice, and be exceeding glad, for great is your reward in Heaven" (Mt 5:12).
