 At the age of ten, Scottish born James Maxwell (1831-1879) began attending the Edinburg Academy. Dressed in geeky clothes devised for him by his father, his fellow classmates nicknamed him Dafty and ridiculed him because of his appearance. He eventually was able to win them over with his exceptional intelligence. By age sixteen he displayed an extraordinary ability in mathematics which lead him to later became a world renown physicist and the founder of theoretical electrodynamics. He may have looked daft on the outside, when he entered the academy, but in reality he was quite smart on the inside.
Maxwell quietly put his critics to silence with his outstanding academic achievements. Likewise it "is the will of God, that with well doing we... put to silence the ignorance of foolish men" (1Pe 2:15) who misjudge and ridicule us. Therefore be like James Maxwell and "be not overcome of evil, but quietly overcome evil with good" (Rm 12:21).
